Your mouth slowly makes movement, forming a confusing combination of vowels and consonants. They seem to flow effortlessly, bouncing off your lips, and traveling through the careless breeze. Your eyes keep direct hold on your target; gripping her fragile neck with a smug smile. The simple thought of your actions distracts her completely. Time has no purpose, the moon following the sun in their never-ending game of tag; causing the shadows to dance on the pavement. Strangers hurry home to feast on their temporary freedoms. They take out their childish dreams they have hidden from the day to replenish their torn spirits. You have no thought of the consequences you will force her to embrace. You do not care or see a reason to anymore. To you it’s only stating the facts, playing the dirty game you were taught to cheat at a very young age. Win or do not dare return. What difference does it make to you if you sever yet another friendship? It has been done plenty times before without a twinge of regret, without losing a second of sleep. This time is no different she whispers to herself. She was told the exaggerated tales, she saw this unfolding, right before her watery eyes; but she refused to accept such an empty ending to a happy, well-made tie. It didn’t matter whether she believed or not; she could feel the words echo throughout her hollow mind. It was not until after you had walked away and night had fallen that she dared to open the doors and release the ravenous demons that begged to feed and manipulate her thoughts and fresh wounds. Repeating every word until she thought she had completely understood, rage cut at her until she could no longer ignore it. She laughed with it, borrowed it; it kept her sane. To wear a smile while you laughed with the curious others around her made her weak, hunger. What seemed important once, quietly lost meaning and slipped out the front door; knowing they were being watched from a distance did not make them smile; it was her crestfallen face that they enjoyed. It was not until she was alone that she ached to understand your real explanation that you did not wish to give. She simply asked why as she stared hard at the mirror. It was not like she could see much with the light of the moon, but she strained her eyes anyway, looking for answers. She only saw your bittersweet smile, whispering to her. It was not until she was sure she had acquired no answers and that she was all alone, that she finally allowed the tears to quietly fall.
